5 things photographers need to learn

There are a number of common habits that photographers tend to fall into, some beneficial and some detrimental. If you want to improve your images and continue to grow as a creator, check out this great video tutorial that discusses five common habits photographers need to drop out of.

Coming to you from James Popsys, this great video tutorial discusses five common things photographers should drop out of to get better. One particularly striking point that I think is often overlooked is the importance of trying out other genres of photography. Even if it’s something you don’t intend to pursue, shooting outside of your usual genre can provide a huge benefit to what you normally photograph. For example, problem-solving and lighting challenges in product photography can improve your studio lighting a bit. Or, if you are a portrait photographer, landscape, street or architecture photography can help you improve your composition and create more interesting images, in which you use environment around your subjects to frame them or to tell a story. It’s a great practice if you’re in the habit of just shooting portraits at wide apertures and blowing the background into blurred screens full of bokeh. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Popsys.
