49ers’ Christian McCaffrey ruled out of Sunday’s game against Vikings; IR under review
The San Francisco 49ers will be without the services of their star midfielder for another week.
Christian McCaffrey McCaffery has been ruled out of the 49ers’ Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings. McCaffery has been struggling with persistent calf and Achilles tendon issues, forcing him to miss the team’s 32-19 win over the New York Jets in Week 1.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey had his worst day on Thursday in terms of pain, and the 49ers are now considering putting their standout player back on IR, according to the following report from ESPN.
Jordan Mason is expected to start in McCaffery’s absence. The third-year player from Georgia Tech had the best game of his young career last weekend, rushing for a career-high 147 yards and scoring a touchdown in the win. His 28 rushing yards were the most by any 49ers player in a regular-season game in 13 years.
