31 Fun Things To Do During Summer — It’s Time For A New Hobby!


Ah, summer. With so much free time (aware), we quickly fill it up with all sorts of interesting things. backyard hanging, meeting with friends and family, and many days of swimming. But the lure to get out and about often pulls us away from our interests and creative store. As a result, as the mass of plans begins to run dry, our summer to-do lists can get strangely limited and our old headquarters — i.e. Netflix and mail relaxed — much less inspiring.

Regardless of whether you work in the creative field or not, it can be difficult to find opportunities to unleash your creativity. As children, most of us tried new things and picked up interests (even if it’s just collecting stones) much more often. But as we get older, somehow, our free time becomes easier to fill with obligations, both personal and professional. It can be easy to fall into a creative slump, which is why we’ve rounded up 30 new things to do this summer.

And while there’s nothing wrong with going out once in a while, there are plenty of other ways to expand your world!

There’s no time like summer to take advantage of the long nights and extra energy that the sun brings. So these are intellectual pursuits, volunteering, outdoor activities, and being active. If you’re not sure where to start, these hobbies offer plenty of healthy, creative, and relaxing inspiration. Wish you happy hobby!

Get messy and learn a new creative skill! There are many classes right now that can also be done both virtual or in person.

Play with flowers

Is there anything more inspiring than working with nature? Countless flowers bloom in season all year round, and there’s nothing better than letting their colors take shape in any composition you create. One of my favorite and accessible ways to expand your inner florist is to shop (Trader Joe’s is a great choice if you have one nearby!), pick up a few! Different kinds of flowers and arrange them at home. You’ll have fresh, beautiful blooms that you can enjoy all week long!

Become an expert in a new topic

Lifelong learners, unite! Honestly I’m a student, and I don’t need classes or lecture halls to make me seriously learn and dive into new things. Spend a little time reading, browsing, or just intentionally looking for inspiration. When you come across something that makes you click — whether it’s a person, place, movement, cultural moment, or anything like that — gather all the material you can find and be proud of it. Excited to learn more.

Begin meditation

Let’s make it the most fun summer ever.

Make your own jewelry

Homemade jewelry is having a big moment — and for good reason. It’s an easy and affordable way to incorporate unique, sustainable items into your accessory arsenal. Grab a kit, browse through some DIY projects, and start tinkering. Once you get really good at it, you can even start designing while binge-watching your favorite show or listening to your can’t-miss podcast.

Enjoy your green thumb

…. Even if you don’t have one! This can certainly mean using it all into a backyard garden, but it can also be like investing in a small container garden on the patio of your apartment. And don’t forget in the house! These are our favorites Can’t kill plants perfect for beginners.

Dive into the art of fiber optics

Knitting, crocheting, weaving — the list goes on! While I’m part of the first option on the list, there’s no end to all the leisurely fun you can have. Pick up a book, watch a YouTube tutorial (in my experience, it’s a great resource to get started, and even learn new stitches and techniques as you go!) or sign up for a class. study at your local store. Bonus: It’s a great way to make friend!

Design your own clothes

This is next level savings. Dust off the old sewing machine your mom gave you years ago and start dreaming of your most creative designs! You can buy a ton of patterns online, and there’s nothing *literally* better than spending a weekend afternoon visiting a local fabric store. Fill in your closest, sustainable.

Feeling love climbing? Join a local cobblestone group or strike out on your own.

Get Crafty

Sure, this idea could be nested among many of the others on this list, but I’d argue the crafting could quite possibly be its own thing. Whether you’re taking on a DIY project to improve your spaceHave fun with paper, or get cozy and decorate it all (six months in advance) for Christmas — no matter when you’re done! While I would never claim to be “good” at drawing or painting, I’ve come to realize that it really isn’t the point.
