I was very lucky with a base kibble for dachshunds from Royal Canine. I add frozen chickpeas. Breakfast includes the world’s tiki dog taste, dinner includes raw chicken neck. My girls are almost 13 years old, slim, strong and full of energy.

The best food is homemade! Ground lean beef with vegetables and grilled or boiled chicken breast with vegetables. You can add some brown rice or white rice. Knowing that your pet is getting healthy, fresh food with no preservatives or additives is always best.

I always use purina small for my girls but both of my kids are chiweenie although my oldest looks more like a dachshund than chi. It’s been recommended by my vet as it has no artificial food coloring and has worked wonders for my oldest child.

I’ve used scientific diet, as long as you read the label, it should be fine. The key with dogs DON’T FEED MORE, GIVE THEM A LOT OF FOOD! They will beg for food 2 seconds after eating. Maintaining a HEALTHY weight is the trick.

I love green buffalo. To my knowledge from the vet, the problem is not the dog food brand but the ingredients. Obviously corn products are the worst for dogs. So I just try to stay away from any food with corn in it. We lost her, she had a tumor and I didn’t know anything about corn until she was about 8 years old. In that particular variety, corn has a tendency to develop tumors. You can research the ingredients for your dog breed

I have been owned by seven hunting dogs over the past 30 years and each one is fed Hills science diet appropriate for their age. My dogs are healthy and have beautiful coats. No board scraps. Dry food unless it’s a day or two after dental work.

I made food for my puppy. As she got older, an allergy to chicken/poultry (a common allergy in puppies) started to grow ugly heads. Lean ground beef, veggies, and a bit of carbs. I will produce large batches, serve sizes in bags and freeze. Sometimes it’s trial and error and their systems change as they age. She lived a long happy life and passed away on May 1, 2020. I kept scouring the internet for her needs and it worked for us. Good luck! Best variety ever & will bring you hours of fun and laughter. i always believe Purina. Just regular dry, and you can mix some canned varieties with it. All my dogs live to be 15 years old. And my Doxie Lilly lived to be 18. Great products have been around for decades. None of my dogs like ducks. You know the ones that cost $25 for a small bag. Unnecessarily I say good ole PURINA is the way to go.

Scientific Diet for puppies if it is very young will bite small bites. My 18 year old dog has lived all his life on it. We recommend graduating when it is older to move on to another category for its age group. I’m serious! Dry dog food

I am the breeder and user purina puppy chow mixed with purina pro plan canned puppy food. It seems that most of my clients don’t feed their puppies with this food but switch to a more expensive food. I’m not really sure why this is. All of my adults thrive on purina.

Look at the ingredients. Stay away from foods that list by-products at the top of the list and stay away from foods that don’t clearly state the source of the by-products. I have seen some good foods that people recommend here, but you have to choose what Best for your dog and your budget, there are many good options. I personally raise Wild taste. I love how the top ingredients are protein-based meat and not by-products, it’s grain free and has probiotics in it, and my dogs look great wearing it. I also recommend zignature and Fromm to my clients. The Zignature has a small bite that will be great for small dogs. Fromm is high end and pricey but it’s so clean and the ingredients are good enough for humans to eat, but it probably won’t taste so good for us.
