3 recent in-custody deaths being investigated: Prince Albert police
A 33-year-old man’s loss of life is being investigated as an in-custody death.
The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) mentioned in a media launch that the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service and Saskatoon Police Service might be main the investigation, together with two unbiased observers from the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Security to supply oversight.
That is the third in-custody loss of life in latest weeks.

The primary incident PAPS is investigating is the loss of life of a 29-year-old man. Through the early hours of Oct. 5, police had been referred to as to the Victoria Hospital for a disturbance report. PAPS indicated the person went into medical misery and later died in hospital on Oct. 12.
“Whereas the male was in police custody for a quick time frame, he remained on the hospital,” in accordance with a PAPS assertion. “Police are treating this investigation as an in-custody loss of life and an unbiased observer has been assigned by the province to supervise this investigation.”
The second loss of life concerned a 35-year-old man who was arrested on Oct. 8. This case is being investigated by the Saskatchewan RCMP.
“The person was remanded into custody following his arrest and was situated unresponsive in his cell on the Prince Albert Police Service simply after 7 p.m. on October 11,” in accordance with a PAPS assertion. “He was transported to hospital, the place he was later pronounced deceased.”
PAPS said thorough investigative processes into in-custody deaths will be prolonged, taking months and even years.
“Our group acknowledges the pressure that may outcome from such investigations and the affect that these investigations can have on belief and relationships inside the group,” PAPS mentioned.
PAPS said whereas they anticipate investigation findings, they are going to be reviewing suggestions from earlier coroner’s inquests into in-custody loss of life investigations.
