The Italian manufacturer said the Fiat 500 hatchback will enter a new generation with the Fiat 500 Ibrida and the upcoming electrified gasoline model will launch between the end of next year and early 2026.
This will inherit the current generation, 500 runs on gasoline that was produced since 2007, with the internal combustion engine version produced in Tychy, Poland. The 500 fully electric introduced in 2020 is manufactured at Mirafiori in Turin, Italy, which will produce the next generation hybrid model.
Powering the upcoming 500 Ibrida will be the same 1.0-litre mild-hybrid three-cylinder petrol engine that currently powers the current Fiat 500 and Panda, according to car. However, the 2026 Fiat 500 is expected to move from the current 500 platform – which also underpins the Panda – to the one that forms the basis of the 500e, as the next-generation hatchback will be built in Mirafiori.
According to Fiat, components for the next 500 units will also be produced in Italy; Its engine will come from the Stellantis factory in Termoli, its exhaust system will come from Naples and its gearbox will also be made in Mirafiori. According to Fiat, design and development of the next 500 units will be in Turin.
According to Fiat CEO and Stellantis global marketing director, Olivier Francois, “90% of Mirafiori production is exported abroad”, and therefore the decision to produce 500 Ibridas was to “increase volumes 500 units in Italy”, suggesting that 500e sales have been weak.
Previous versions of the Fiat 500 had current internal combustion engines incl 500X and Abarth F595while a performance version of the all-electric hatchback also appears Abarth 500e.
