2025 Nissan Patrol Unveiled – 7th Generation Ditching V8 for Twin-Turbo V6, Google Integration and Klipsch Sound

A new one Nissan Patrol It doesn’t come around very often, but this flagship 4×4 has just entered its seventh generation in 73 years with the launch of the latest model in Abu Dhabi today. Built on the platform of the latest Infiniti QX80The car retains the body-on-frame structure but is equipped with many new technologies and a new engine to replace the old V8 engine.

That engine is the VR35DDTT 3.5-litre direct-injection twin-turbo V6. Despite being two litres smaller in displacement, it produces more power (+7%) and significantly more torque (+25%) – 425hp and 700Nm – while also being more fuel efficient. With its tendency to be used off-road in hot climates such as the Middle East, the six-cylinder has been equipped with a high-temperature turbocharger and a circulating oil pump, the latter ensuring continuous lubrication on steep slopes and steep roads.

Nissan has retained the base naturally aspirated V6 engine, although its displacement has been reduced to 3.8 liters; now with direct injection, it produces 316 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a new nine-speed automatic transmission, also sourced from Mercedes-Benz, along with Nissan’s first 4WD mode shift interlock system that allows the driver to seamlessly switch between modes.

Off-road capability is further enhanced with the standard installation of adaptive air suspension, which uses electronic dampers to automatically adapt to driving conditions. The air springs can be raised to increase ground clearance or lowered to improve aerodynamic efficiency, entry and exit, as well as aid loading.

Marking a departure from the rather bloated sixth-generation model, the new Patrol shares the same proportions and general design direction as the QX80, albeit with sharper styling. The front end features prominent vertical twin-C LED headlights with adaptive headlight technology, flanked by a striking V-motion grille that visually integrates with the lights via a double chrome bar.

Along the side, you’ll find vertical fender vents and a vertical glass door with a wraparound windshield design similar to the QX80. Where the Patrol differs from the Infiniti is in the D-pillar, which uses more body color and is covered in “Patrol” decals.

Full-width taillights, combined with the same double-C graphics as the front, complete the design at the rear, which also features two body-coloured bumpers surrounding the tow eyes. New puddle lamps incorporate the car’s silhouette and “Since 1951” lettering, highlighting the plate’s long history. The Patrol is available in seven colours – plus four two-tone options – with wheel options up to 22 inches in diameter.

The interior is as much a departure from the previous model as the exterior. The widescreen display panel is lifted straight from the QX80, with a 14.3-inch infotainment screen and gauge cluster integrated almost seamlessly into the 28.6-inch Monolith dashboard.

The cars run on the new Nissan Connect 2.0 operating system, with Google services like Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Play Store built in – a first for the Middle East. In the back, you’ll find optional dual 12.8-inch headrest-mounted displays, while the available sound system is a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio setup with DynamicAudioReveal technology and DJX 3D surround sound.

Continuing on to the rest of the cabin, you’ll find a stitched leather dashboard and door panels, along with a tall, wide center console with gear selector and sliding storage lid. Quilted leather seats feature a pattern inspired by Kumikoa Japanese woodworking technique, and can be equipped with eight-way power adjustment and massage function. Panoramic glass sunroof and 64-color ambient lighting with “customizable living background” are standard equipment.

New to the Patrol is Biometric Cooling, which uses built-in infrared sensors to detect the body temperature of first- and second-row occupants and automatically adjusts airflow settings accordingly, similar to Lexus’ Climate Concierge technology. Nissan claims class-leading second- and third-row space, with access to the rear seats (which feature power-folding and unfolding) aided by EZ flex second-row seats that can be pushed forward without having to remove the attached child seat.

Meanwhile, boot space has been increased by up to 30 per cent, combined with a total of nine litres of storage in the glovebox and under the armrest. Nissan says the Patrol’s all-new frame has increased dynamic torsional rigidity, which not only improves handling and off-road capability, but also reduces vibration – making for a more comfortable ride, along with acoustic glass.
