The 2025 Nissan Leaf remains available but is not eligible for the federal electric vehicle tax credit for this model this year.
It has been a roller coaster. Following new regulations implemented last August, Leaf 2024 qualified for a $3,750 credit in October. Then, at the beginning of the year, the Leaf no longer qualified until it met the “battery content” requirements of the Inflationary Reduction Act (IRA) and not the “battery materials” portion. Nissan then said in March that 2024 models are still eligible for the $3,750 credit, but that does not appear to apply to 2025 models.

Like the 2024 model, the 2025 Leaf comes only in 40 kWh S and 60 kWh SV Plus configurations, with ranges of 149 miles and 212 miles, respectively. In 2025, prices start at $29,180 for the Leaf S and $37,330 for the Leaf SV Plus with destination. That compares to 2024 model year prices of $29,235 and $37,285 for the S and SV Plus, respectively.
All Leaf models are front-wheel drive, but the Leaf S is tuned for 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, while the SV Plus gets a higher output of 214 horsepower and torque. 250 lb-ft of twist.
“We will continue to work closely with our supply chain to regain future eligibility for the 30D Tax Credit for Leaf 2025”. The battery supplier remains AESC, which has been assembling Leaf packs for years near its electric vehicle assembly plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Nissan hasn’t significantly updated the Leaf in several years. It still is New EV only with CHAdeMO fast charging. The Leaf’s last notable change comes in 2023, when it receives changes to its battery chemistry, cutting the Plus pack to 60 kwh from the previous 62 kwh but increase efficiency. The Leaf has been completely redesigned for the 2018 model year.
This could be the last model year of this Leaf generation in the US. It has been phased out in the UK and Europe, and one Next generation Nissan Leaf that becomes a bit more influenced by the crossover that will arrive in the 2027 model year.
