Entering the European scooter market is the Kymco KRV 200 2023, which the Taiwanese manufacturer says is the first of a new generation using its Powertrain Module (PTM). With PTM, KRV 200 brings large scooter technology down to the smaller displacement scooter segment.
Unlike conventional small displacement scooters with the engine and CVT transmission integrated as part of the swingarm, the KRV 200 mounts those components to the frame. The final drive to the rear wheel uses a belt, like a maxi scooter at 500 cc and above.
The benefit of PTM is reduced weight without springs, which gives the KRV 200 better handling characteristics. This also helps the KRV 200 to distribute 50/50 weight between the front and rear wheels with a low center of gravity.
Power for the KRV 200 comes from a 175 cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder, four-valve, liquid-cooled engine, provided by EFI. Power is rated at 17 hp at 8,000 rpm with a torque of 15.6 Nm at 6,250 rpm.
Suspension is done with a 33 mm telescopic fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Forbear KRV 200 is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, with a diameter of 27 mm and a rear disc of 240 mm diameter and two-wheel ABS as standard equipment.
Standard equipment also includes a traction control system, which the driver can toggle using the control cluster on the left handlebar. Wheel size for KRV 200 is 13 inches, comes with 110/70 front tire and 130/70 rear tire.
The LED lighting system is used throughout on the KRV 200 along with the LCD panel displaying the necessary information inside the cockpit. A storage compartment large enough to hold a full-face helmet is found under the saddle.
Other conveniences while driving include two USB charging sockets, found in the front fender and in the storage compartment as well as keyless entry. The weight of the KRV 200 is listed at 143 kg, with a 7.4-liter fuel tank and a seat height of 795 mm.
