2023 H247 Mercedes-Benz GLA facelift launched – more kit; Latest MBUX, driver assistance; Improved PHEV

Mercedes-Benz GLA has been slightly upgraded three years after the version The second generation H247 arrives in December 2019. The Stuttgart automaker’s compact SUV features new looks front and rear, an enhanced equipment list, a new generation of MBUX and an upgraded Driver Assistance package, as well as a hybrid powertrain. improve.

Starting with the looks, Mercedes-Benz says there’s a new grille with vertical slats and fins, and a redesigned front bumper with ‘visual protection underneath’ that is said to indicate the off-road gene of the car. GLA. However, we don’t really see changes on this example, and these are the only press shots of the upgrade released so far.

More obvious is the modernized light signature in the standard High Performance LED front headlights and LED taillights. A new Spectral Blue color joins the list of paint options and the series features four new wheel designs. In the basic form, the GLA uses a set of 17-inch black 5-spoke dual-spoke alloy wheels with highly polished surfaces. Optional wheels come in sizes up to 20 inches.

It’s a very slight upgrade then, but that’s not a big deal as the second-gen GLA still feels pretty fresh, and that’s probably because the H247 is such a big difference over the GLA. original in design and form – the previous car looks like an A-Class trigger while this one has more traditional SUV styling.

Inside, all eyes will be on the new steering wheel with a large star logo, as seen on recent Mercedes models. Leather on the wheels is standard; Artico synthetic leather is available as an alternative. For the first time, a heated steering wheel is also available for the AMG Line.

The independent dual-screen layout is a signature of Mercedes; here, it combines 7.0-inch and 10.25-inch screens as standard for the instrument cluster and infotainment screen respectively. The dashboard can be upgraded to fit the central screen size.

There are tweaks to the trim list, and the facelifted GLA comes with comfortable seats as standard. They are upholstered in black Artico and 3D embossed fabric, with the trendy ‘sagegrey’ color on the options list. The Progressive level comes in three interior colors: black, macchiato beige and sage gray. For the AMG Line, the Artico/microfibre upholstery is also now available in bahia brown and also in a new pepper red/black color combination.

Mercedes-Benz says it has significantly upgraded the standard equipment of the GLA and “tuned the offer logic even more precisely to the specific wishes of the customer”. In addition to the leather-wrapped steering wheel and LED front headlights, the base kit list already includes Headlight Assist, a reverse camera, and a USB package. From the Progressive equipped variant onwards, customers will receive the Parking Pack and the Mirror Pack.

The latest generation of MBUX makes its debut in the GLA with a new display style. Classic provides all driver-related information, Sporty has a dynamic rev counter and Discreetly shrinks the display to the essentials. Combined with the three Navigation, Assist and Service modes plus 10 colors you can choose from as your ambient lighting, it’s hard to find another GLA cabin exactly like yours. Operate functions via touch screen or steering wheel pad.

Other additions include a revised telematics system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, additional USB-C ports, and increased USB charging power. All USB ports are now illuminated. The smart voice assistant is now said to be smarter and more suggestive, and can trigger certain actions without saying “Hey Mercedes.” Finally, the optional Burmester sound system, combined with the latest MBUX, now features Dolby Atmos.

On the safety front, an upgrade to the Driver Assist package allows for more comfortable Lane Keeping Assist control through Active Steering Control. The latest Parking Package supports vertical parking and provides a 360-degree view of camera-assisted parking. The Tractor Maneuver Assist System is available for the first time on the GLA.

Under the hood, the petrol engines in the GLA facelift are all electrified. The range includes four-cylinder units with seven- or eight-speed DCT as standard. The mild hybrids come with an onboard 48-volt power supply for the belt-driven starter generator. When idling or when needed, it provides an additional 13 hp (10 kW) for short periods of time, but the starter-generator also improves comfort – in addition to its smooth starting, it also gives engine shutdown.

The GLA 250e plug-in hybrid has a higher available energy content from the innovative battery, resulting in a longer electric range. The power of the electric motor increased by 5 kW to 80 kW (107 hp) but the system power remained unchanged. As for charging, owners can speed it up with standard outputs of 3.7 kW, AC up to 11 kW and even DC up to 22 kW. Mercedes has updated the display for the hybrid functions.

With all the talk about electric vehicles and electrification, some people may not realize that diesel is still around. Merc’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine comes in three levels of power and torque. The oil burner features a single-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, aluminum cylinder head and crankcase, and a Nanoslide coating that reduces friction between the cylinder wall and steel pistons. This reduces consumption and emissions.

H247 GLA is Launched in Malaysia in December 2020 as CBU imports from Germany, before CKD locally assembled version will be replaced in October 2021. We also have compact SUVs in GLA 35 AMG form and as a full EV, equalizer.
