Mercedes-Benz says it has significantly upgraded the standard equipment of the GLA and “tuned the offer logic even more precisely to the specific wishes of the customer”. In addition to the leather-wrapped steering wheel and LED front headlights, the base kit list already includes Headlight Assist, a reverse camera, and a USB package. From the Progressive equipped variant onwards, customers will receive the Parking Pack and the Mirror Pack.
The latest generation of MBUX makes its debut in the GLA with a new display style. Classic provides all driver-related information, Sporty has a dynamic rev counter and Discreetly shrinks the display to the essentials. Combined with the three Navigation, Assist and Service modes plus 10 colors you can choose from as your ambient lighting, it’s hard to find another GLA cabin exactly like yours. Under the hood, the petrol engines in the GLA facelift are all electrified. The range includes four-cylinder units with seven- or eight-speed DCT as standard. The mild hybrids come with an onboard 48-volt power supply for the belt-driven starter generator. When idling or when needed, it provides an additional 13 hp (10 kW) for short periods of time, but the starter-generator also improves comfort – in addition to its smooth starting, it also gives engine shutdown.
The GLA 250e plug-in hybrid has a higher available energy content from the innovative battery, resulting in a longer electric range. The power of the electric motor increased by 5 kW to 80 kW (107 hp) but the system power remained unchanged. As for charging, owners can speed it up with standard outputs of 3.7 kW, AC up to 11 kW and even DC up to 22 kW. Mercedes has updated the display for the hybrid functions.
With all the talk about electric vehicles and electrification, some people may not realize that diesel is still around. Merc’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine comes in three levels of power and torque. The oil burner features a single-stage turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, aluminum cylinder head and crankcase, and a Nanoslide coating that reduces friction between the cylinder wall and steel pistons. This reduces consumption and emissions.
