Tom Kim and Jordan Spieth tee off together on Thursday at the Plantation Course in Kapalua for the first round of the 2023 Champions League. Enrolled for rounds 8 under 65 and 6 under 67, respectively, both also shared a Christmas dinner last week – with Kim also acting as babysitter for Spieth’s 14-month-old son, Sammy.
“The more time I spend with Jordan [Spieth], we have become closer friends. I think we were on the same plane from Hero back to Dallas, so I took Jordan’s flight,” said Kim, who is still finding her way in the US. “He was really nice. inviting me to Christmas. My family is not at home and I live alone. So I spent some time with Spieths and babysitting Sammy, which was really cool. It’s been great to build a friendship and it’s great to play with him today.”
After winning twice in four tournaments on the PGA Tour and featuring on the International Team at the 2022 Presidents Cup, Kim took a short break in South Korea to reconnect with her family. Abroad for four weeks, he returned to his new base in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Kim, just 20 years old, is the latest addition to the PGA Tour star lineup who call the Dallas-Fort Worth area home. Joining not only Spieth, but Scottie Scheffler, Will Zalatoris and some of his Korean colleagues at the Lone Star Bang, Kim has surrounded himself with some of the best players in the world both on and off the golf course.
“Tom, actually during the Christmas break, he was with Jordan and his family for Christmas dinner,” said Smylie Kaufman, NBC live analyst and good friend of Spieth. “So these two have really formed a bond over the last few months, and they’re having a blast here today.
Kaufman continued: “Tom is a popular guy who likes to eat certain foods. “I was told he was back, not just for a third, but a quarter at Christmas dinner.”
