2022 Perodua Alza D27A debuts in Malaysia – based on Toyota Avanza; Dual VVT-i engine

Perodua has started teasing 2022 Alza (codename D27A) in a new video posted to its social media channels. The video, which is actually more focused on the automaker’s Smart Build sustainability blueprint, contains some footage of the upcoming Alza, though finer details are hard to come by due to the dark setting. .

Based on what we can see, it is clear that the brand new Alza will be based on Toyota Avanza/Daihatsu Xenia. The shape of the all-new Perodua MPV is virtually identical to that of its close cousins, but there are some notable styling differences.

First, D27A seems to have an X-shaped face in the spirit of Ativa and as illustrated by Theophilus Chin in his previous renders (no vertical DRLs). The headlights have also been reshaped to be more angular than on the Avanza and Xenia, likely to also come with Perodua’s signature grille.

In terms of lighting ability, LED reflector headlights have a horizontal strip at the top of each cluster that acts as a positioning light. Elsewhere, the fog lights are not circular like on the Avanza but are instead rectangular.

Moving to the rear, the taillights don’t seem to be much different from the Avanza, as they share the same L-shaped “L” and the light clusters are joined by a decorative piece with the Perodua logo in the center. We don’t have a photo of the interior, but expect it to be close to both the Toyota and Daihatsu MPVs.

As for what will power the D27A, we have previously reported that this model will receive Avanza’s 2NR-VE 1.5 liter naturally aspirated Dual VVT-i 4-cylinder factory capacity of 106 PS and torque of 138 Nm. This seems pretty much confirmed, judging by the ‘Dual VVT-i’ badging on the fenders. The 2NR-VE on the Avanza is mated to a front-wheel-drive D-CVT transmission and we should expect the same for the Alza.

The same report also indicates three variations offered to customers, namely X, H and AV. We still don’t have an official launch date, but for now, are you excited for the new Alza?
