Crown announced 2022 to be held in Churchill Downs in November, according to Dan Metzger, president of the Purebred Breeders and Owners Association.
Speaking on the Racing Network’s Equestrian Forum June 4, the CEO of the National Horse Association’s Protection and Benevolence Association first announced the news, saying: “I’m delighted. transferred the 2022 crown of claim to Churchill Downs Saturday, November 12 is the current plan We appreciate Churchill Downs, especially (following rep) Mike Ziegler and Ben Huffman, who wanted this event We hope for a day as big as we’ve had at Gulfstream over the years Long time -regular plans are to stay in the Churchill Downs family, go to Louisiana (Racecourse & Slots at Fair Grounds) for 2023.”
Representing the partnership between the National HBPA and TOBA, the Crown Claims Acts as a small “River’s Cup” for owners of the claimed horses.
This year will be the 24th event and also the first time it has taken place in the past 10 years. Gulfstream Park has hosted it since 2012. In 2013, Gulfstream became the first track to host it consecutively since then Canterbury Park, thus initiating a long-term commitment to the server. Canterbury held its first Inaugural Crown Ceremony in 1999 and continued to do so for the next 10 years.
The event was also held at Racing Parx (2002), Ellis . Park (2007), and Fair Grounds (2011).
Showcasing some of the most competitive fields in the country, all self-proclaimed horses are eligible to race regardless of where they were bred or previously raced and the level at which they compete consistently.
Including nine races worth $1.1 million in the wallet, the Claims Crown has become a highlight on the racing calendar for horses that have begun receiving tokens between $7,500 and $35,000.
