2022 A4DE – Bacon tops third day but controversy continues

2022 A4DE – Erica (VIC) – Tuesday

It was a very cold Friday morning at Erica as the riders prepared for the penultimate day of competition Prestige Truck Center | supported 2022 A4DE.

It may have been cold but Kyron Bacon got hot out of the blocks to once again compete at the top at the 2022 Australia Four Day Enduro from Andrew Wilksch as the battle between the small and large barrel continues to play the way of the mounted WR250F. Bacon before Wilksch on the sophisticated Husky FE501.

However Controversy day by day Witnessing Wilksch being fined a minute for breach of procedure before the race started was once again an ugly head raise. Buy Yamaha Offroad Racing Team Driver Josh Green objected that the punishment was too lenient compared to the regulation that gives penalties for such violations, and as a result officials reconsidered and increased the penalty by two more minutes! That has seen Wilksch now relegated to fifth place outright after a brutal blow to the 25-year-old.

Andrew Wilksch has seen his first-day penalties triple….

Todd Waters had a good day on the FE450 to finish third of the day ahead of two-stroke GASGAS driver Tom Mason and Josh Green’s WR450F racer. Not bad for the motocross expert Waters in his first A4DE.

Wilksch’s penalties, however, saw Josh Green move up to second place behind teammate Kyron Bacon, sending the Yamaha 1-2 at the top of the standings fully into the final day of competition. Green leads Waters by more than a minute at the top of the E2 ranking.

Likewise, Tom Mason goes straight for third on the two-stroke GASGAS and Todd Waters comes in fourth right on the 450 Husky. Mason also currently leads E3 ahead of Wilksch due to the penalties imposed.

Jeremy Carpentier improved his position on Friday to finish sixth of the day on the WR250F track ahead of KTM 500 EXC-F driver Stefan Granquist. Outright Carpentier is running eighth, one place behind Granquist.

Cooper Sheidow continued to shine in the slippery conditions and drove his Kessner Motorcycles supporting the 250 XC-F to an eighth-fastest time of the third day ahead of Blake Hollis mounting the WR250F. This took Sheidow to sixth place instantly and made him the KTM lead by 11 seconds over Granquist. Sheidow also placed second in the E1 category ahead of Jeremy Carpentier.

Blake Hollis finished ninth for the day and ninth on his WR250F and fourth in E1.

Beta 430 RR driver Fraser Higlett was back in the top 10 overall with 10th place for the day and 3rd in the E2 category.

A fatal crash for Korey McMahon, who is sixth right behind second day on GASGAS EC250F has put Sydneysider out of action.

Jessica Gardiner continues to lead the women’s competition while Darren Lloyd remains the top veteran. Jason Salopayers leads over 45 Masters while over 60 seniors are led by what you might call a statesman or patron of A4DE, and that is of course none other than Geoffrey Ballard (AM).

The final day takes place at 07:30 a.m. Saturday and includes a relatively short final car race to decide who gets the silver medal. There will be a trail loop that will take the riders to their final work area at the Final Moto Parc Ferme. The riders will then enter a 15-minute work period before getting their bikes ready for the Moto Finals.

Final Moto is run on a built-in ‘natural terrain’ style track and is now available to riders on foot before the competition begins tomorrow. Bicycles will be impounded for 30 minutes after each class finishes – if there is no objection, the bike will be returned to the rider and the results announced.
