Friends often come to me with houseplant problems – problems like falling leaves, wilting and no new plants. They are often surprised to hear my diagnosis: that it is not a houseplant at all. Instead, I encourage friends who have cravings for green vegetables in living space to get fake houseplants for a test drive.
Think about the conditions under which plants grow out side—There is moisture in the air, natural sunlight, and pollinators buzzing around. While some plant perform better than others in indoor environments, it is not uncommon for most to eventually die from dry air quality, inadequate lighting and poor soil. For these reasons, I am all about the fake houseplant trend.
Most of our favorite stores now sell incredible artificial indoor plants, making it easy to add an array of realistic plants to your home. Best of all: the only maintenance these beauties require is occasional dusting. Gone are the days of fake houseplants that look waxy and sticky — these days it’s practically unrecognizable. From the budding light bulb to fig leavesthere is an artificial indoor plant version of almost every plant out there.
