20 companies added to the index focusing on social and environmental benefits
An investment index that tracks the world’s most transparent companies is changing their holdings for 2022.
Index – called Transparency Index – is adding 20 new companies to a list of 100 that exclude certain industries it considers harmful to people and the planet.
That includes alcohol, banking, chemicals, confectionery, fossil fuel transportation, gambling, metals and minerals, oil and natural gas, and tobacco.

Each company in the index has a weight of about 1%.
The index is being used for a new ETF offered by ARK Investment Management, led by Chief Investment Officer and Chief Investment Officer Cathie Wood. ETFs, known as ARK Transparency ETF, which trades under the ticker CTRU and is the company’s first passive investment product.
That ETF opened at $18.41 per share on Friday, before falling slightly more than 1%. In contrast, the leading ARK Innovation ETF of companies affected by dramatic sell-off on Thursday, partly due to rising interest rates. That fund was trading at about $85 per share on Friday morning.

Among the companies added to the Transparency Index are Cboe Global Market, which owns the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and Sprout Social, a provider of web-based social network management tools.
The index seeks to identify companies that are emphasizing transparency with both employees and customers. “There is no money to play with or influence any of these companies,” said Paul Pagnato, president and founder of Transparency Invest, the company that created the Transparency Index.

80 names will be on the list included Starbucks, Sales force and Working day, a provider of cloud applications for human resources.
Meanwhile, 20 companies are being phased out, including Nike and Zillow’s group
