1959 OSSA 175 MX four-stroke off-road motorcycle
1959 OSSA Motocross 175
The only off-road four-stroke OSSA
What we have here is quite rare – the only four-stroke OSSA off-road motorcycle with the engine (there is a road model with a similar engine, the GT175).
Interestingly, the engine is a 172 cc Morini manufactured under license from OSSA (Orpheo Sincronic Sociedad Anónima – the company that started producing cinema projectors in 1924). When running on the road, the engine made 12 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and about 1000 bicycles were produced between 1958 and 1963.
The MX was produced in much smaller numbers (no one seems to know how many), but it was an instant success when José Elizalde Bertrand won Spain’s first 250 cc Motocross championship in 2016. 1959. This is a 1959 model and has engine number 0001.
