Authorities arrested a 15-year-old girl in Westchester County after she allegedly stabbed a teenage girl and slashed another. The incident happened Saturday during a state championship parade by the local high school basketball team.
According to a statement from the city, two teenage girls were stabbed in the melee. One suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the other, a 16-year-old man, suffered “serious injuries” and died while she was being taken to Jacobi Medical Center
Sources have identified the victim as Kayla Breonna Green. Her heartbroken mother took to instagram and shared devastating photos of her baby in her hospital bed and at a 16-year-old party recently.
“They took my baby away from me. They killed my child and then bragged about it but I leave all the avenging to God. People contact me tagging me to repost it, I really appreciate that. I watched it, thank you very much. I am not strong, please pray for me,” her mother wrote in an Instagram post.
The suspect, who has not been named, is expected to appear in juvenile court on Monday for manslaughter, intentional assault and assault.
“I am devastated and completely outraged,” Mayor Shawyn Patterson Howard said in a statement. “We begin a day celebrating the greatness and success of our youth. And we ended it with a childish life that was robbed by senseless and inexcusable violence.”
“The mental and emotional health of our community, especially our children, must come first and we must go together. As a community, our common solidarity must be for the safety and healthy development of our young people,” she continued. “Our sincere prayers and condolences go out to family, friends and the entire Mount Vernon community.”
