Snow is falling and it’s time to clean up in the spring. Yes, I know it’s still winter, but my New York shoebox apartment is bursting with clothing joints and I need to condense.
See, I’m what some would call hoarder. I love all my clothes and it’s so hard to remove the pieces. This may be one of the reasons I have a shoe rack stacked on top of a closet full of shoes I haven’t touched in five seasons. I had to go home for Thanksgiving and come back to really look into my room with clear eyes and see that this was no way to live. And so the spring cleaning has already begun before the holiday season.
During my cleaning, I’ve realized that the most important things are the basics. While I have sparkly sneakers and a fur coat, I really only wear my wardrobe staples: my favorite jeans, classic black leggings, a white top three holes shirt, and other sure-fire pieces that make up my everyday wardrobe. And while I sometimes like pops of color or texture, it’s time to make room for the basics in my wardrobe because those are the clothes I’m actually in.
The best part about these wardrobe basics is that they can go with literally anything and can be worn any way. A simple leather jacket You can put on something casual like a denim skirt or put on something classy like a black LBD. And so I move all these staples to the front of my closet and move the less conventional stuff under my bed.
Now when I go into my closet to put an outfit together, I see all the basics that I know I’m actually wearing, and I can think of at least 15 ways to wear things. basic in this useful wardrobe. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite staples below.
