10-year-old boy steals SUV to ride Joyride in an attempt to meet his mother


A 10-year-old boy stole an SUV to have fun on the road Michigan interstate late last month, supposedly to see his mother, according to police.

A week ago Friday (May 27), an unnamed minor stole a 2017 Buick Encore in Buena Vista, 35 miles north of Flint, Michigan State Police tweeted on Thursday.

The boy told police he stole the car “because he was trying to get to his mother in Detroit.”

NBC News reported that Saginaw County Central Dispatcher received a call from OnStar informing dispatchers that the vehicle was heading south on Interstate 75. Soldiers attempted to pull over the vehicle. The vehicle pulled over but the driver did not stop, according to police.

OnStar, a security service installed on the vehicle, then disabled Buick, the outlet reports.

Several witnesses called the police and also reported that a child was driving a car on the interstate.

ONE 32 second video of the incident showed police chasing the SUV, which swerved through the lanes before hitting a railing and coming to a stop on the side of the road.

An officer tailed the Buick for about a mile with the emergency lights on. Meanwhile, OnStar attempted to turn off the SUV, according to police. The car was only slightly damaged.

However, no one was injured.

The young man tried to run away from the car before being arrested by the police. He has not been named due to his age.

Children face charges of illegally operating a motor vehicle, fleeing police and resisting or obstructing police

The suspect remains in custody at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center, NBC News report.

Michigan live reported the child told police it was his mother’s car.

The boy is believed to be staying with relatives in Buena Vista and said he took a bus to visit his mother, who is believed to be in Detroit, according to NBC News.

According to Michigan News, the child is facing charges of illegal motor vehicle driving, fourth-degree runaway and evading police, as well as assaulting, resisting or obstructing police.
